I just happened to pick up a book that came to the office yesterday and before I knew it, I was 26 pages in (please don’t ask how far along I am in “The Catcher in the Rye.”). “Lift,” by Kelly Corrigan is an open letter from Corrigan to her two daughters about the events — the big ones and the mundane — that helped shape their early lives, whether they remember or not. Corrigan is a wonderful writer with a great voice and sense of humor. You’ll feel like you’re listening to a friend. And this is a sneak preview I got since I work in the features department at a newspaper. The small hardcover book, $16.99, doesn’t come out until March 2.
Corrigan also wrote “The Middle Place,” a bestseller and here’s her YouTube video called “Transcending.” I dare you not to tear up.
Another book I heard about todayk, and will definitely read, is “35 Things Your Teen Won’t Tell You, So I Will,” by Ellen Pober Rittberg. I was drawn to it by some of Rittberg’s quotes in this Newsday article.
“If your teens are vague and evasive, pin them down like dead butterflies,” she writes.
Carry a picture of your teens as babies at all times. This is for self-preservation, she says. “When your kid disappoints you, the level of disgust can be very high,” Rittberg says. “When I really got disgusted with my child, I whipped out that picture.” It brought back the feeling of love.
Could be another book club possibility, once we finish “The Catcher in the Rye,” of course.

When it comes to clothing that is for the moment and represents the trends of the street, Ed Hardy leads the pack. Madonna, Kanye West, Fergie, Britney Spears, Jessica Alba, Fabolous and Shakira are just a small sampling of the many celebrities who have been spotted wearing Ed Hardy clothing.

Hi… I don’t know if you’ve been making changes, but your pages aren’t displaying correctly for me. The edges of the text are running into each other. I didn’t do this the other day. I don’t know if it’s something on my computer or if you’ve made a change… Just thought you might want to look at it. Thanks!
